Ethereum 2.0’s Genesis Day Is Officially Set for Dec. 1 – CoinDesk

by crypto journalist
“I would say we are comfortably half-way through the overall effort to make Eth 2 feature complete,” Drake told CoinDesk over direct message. “The research (which lasted years!) is largely done and the phase 0 genesis is definitely a significant implementation milestone. Phase 0 lays the heavy-duty foundations (signatures, Merkleisation, networking, Eth 1 deposits, randomness, PoS, etc.). Many of the upcoming hard forks will layer relatively thin infrastructure on top of these foundations.” As for the rest of the bootstrapping phases, Drake said the second to last one — the full merging of Ethereum 1.0’s blockchain and ecosystem of tokens […]

Ethereum and Ripple are exploding higher thanks to the growing interest in cryptocurrencies that lifted Bitcoin above $18,000

by crypto journalist
Summary List Placement Ethereum and Ripple are soaring, echoing the powerful rally in Bitcoin, as mass interest in cryptocurrencies picks up steam. Ethereum has jumped almost four-fold this year to just below $600, although this is still short of its record $1,500 in January 2018. The price of smaller crypto rival Ripple has hit its highest since mid-2019, having doubled in value in this month alone. This growing interest raises red flags, because many people are pouring in money into cryptocurrencies without really understanding how they work, which could lead to several mistakes and lost money, a researcher said. Bitcoin’s […]

Ethereum 2.0: What is it and Why is the Price Booming? | SwissBorg

by crypto journalist
On November 4th, Ethereum’s founder, Vitalik Buterin, tweeted that the ETH2 deposit contract had been released. Ethereum 2.0 is the protocol’s largest update since its inception. It is a paradigm shift which will change the Ethereum network allowing it to become the “world computer”. How will Ethereum 2.0 differ from 1.0? Unsure about what Ethereum 1.0 is and how it works? Check out this article on our website.   Just like Bitcoin, Ethereum 1.0 uses Proof of Work (PoW), an energy intensive procedure, as a consensus mechanism for verifying transactions. It will switch via a hard fork to using the […]

Ethereum 2.0 Countdown Begins With Deposit Contract Release – CoinDesk

by crypto journalist
The genesis time for Eth 2.0 was first set for Jan. 3, the 12th anniversary of the launch of the Bitcoin network. The date has been moved, the GitHub file shows, to Dec. 1. After publication of this article, the deposit contract file was confirmed by an Ethereum Foundation blog. “We’re all excited,” Ethereum 2.0 researcher Danny Ryan told CoinDesk in an October email. “This has been a long time coming, and countless researchers, engineers, and community members have put blood, sweat, and tears into this project. Feels good to finally bootstrap Ethereum’s long-awaited proof-of-stake consensus.”  On a practical level, […]

Bitcoin price nears $16K, but it’s Ethereum that may shine in November

by crypto journalist
The price of Bitcoin (BTC) is nearing $16,000 after achieving $15,960 on Binance. Following the dominant cryptocurrency’s rally, analysts are now looking toward Ether (ETH). The Ethereum blockchain’s native token has seen heightened momentum in the past week. After underperforming against BTC in October, the probability of a new ETH rally is beginning to increase. There are two key reasons why analysts expect Ether to perform strongly in the near term. First, the capital in the Bitcoin market could move into ETH following the announcement of Ethereum 2.0. Second, ETH recently tested a critical resistance level, raising the chances of […]

The Bitcoin and Ethereum Show

by crypto journalist
Original post date: November 02, 2020 [October 2020 Update] Why now may be the time to seriously look into crypto I always say knowledge is the new money. Knowledge does not go away, it stays with you and it evolves with you. No one can take it from you. I start with that because we are seeing it right now. Your money is being taken from you. As the Federal Reserve Bank keeps printing money, money becomes devalued. Is your paycheck going up to match the disappearing value? Probably not, your money is being stolen. Banks are not giving any […]

Forget Ethereum, DeFi Is Being Built on Bitcoin – CoinDesk

by crypto journalist
Yet, to dismiss the piece, and its author Matt Luongo, would be a mistake. Matt is an ardent Bitcoiner making an argument that to me seems obvious. As a long-time Bitcoiner, it has always been my dream to extend Bitcoin’s decentralization to the wider economy. That is precisely what Matt is saying: It is time for us to take our belief in decentralization to the next level.  The same day Matt’s article came out, we learned BitMEX, where so many Bitcoiners have deposited their bitcoin, is under threat. Not only does this place users’ bitcoin and private information in jeopardy, […]

Ethereum Transaction Fees Fall 82%, as Defi Hype Eases

by crypto journalist
The average cost of sending a transaction over the Ethereum blockchain has fallen by 82% from a September 2 peak of $11.61, down to $2.09 as of October 4. The decline may be the result of a slow down in the hype around decentralized finance (defi) protocols. According to data from Glassnode, ethereum () miners have also seen a corresponding sharp drop in total earnings from fees over the past three weeks. On Sept. 17, miners raked in 42,763 , or $14.97 million, in fees, but that tanked to just 5,898 , or $2.06 million, as of Sunday. As a […]

Matthew Finestone: Ethereum-Enhancers Not Ethereum-Killers – CoinDesk

by crypto journalist
Ethereum’s popularity has congested the network like never before, and scalability is top of mind. Historically, and still today, many look beyond Ethereum for more scalable smart contract platforms. However, the most interesting scaling battles are being waged above Ethereum on Layer 2s (L2), not besides Ethereum on Layer 1s.  One specific flavor of Ethereum L2 scaling solutions, Zk-rollups, are live and flourishing today (rollups bundle transfers into single transactions). So much so that many leading community members support simplifying Ethereum’s Eth2 upgrade to focus on a rollup-scaled ecosystem. With this in mind, the new competitive arena is between Ethereum-enhancers, […]
