Platforms and Blockchain Will Transform Logistics

by crypto journalist
Jorg Greuel/Getty Images Major change is coming to the logistics and shipping industries – a transformation that promises to be even more dramatic than the move to third-party logistics a generation ago. With increasing digitization, platform-based business models will connect new players, wash away inefficient old ones, and harness the cloud. Consumer-facing transportation and logistics have already seen the rise of platforms such as Uber and Deliveroo, yet business-to-business logistics pose different challenges. Where successful firms once coordinated just two parties’ assets — those of shippers and receivers –logistics hubs now coordinate multiple stakeholders, involving containers, finance, fuel, transport, regulatory […]

Child Pornography That Researchers Found in the Blockchain Could Threaten Bitcoin’s Very Existence

by crypto journalist
While the practical and financial viability of the Bitcoin blockchain is still an open question, new research shows that the whole thing could already be illegal in most countries. Researchers in Germany discovered that the ledger system that provides the backbone for Bitcoin contains hundreds of links to child pornography and at least one image thought to be child pornography. The team from Germany’s RWTH Aachen University presented their new paper at a conference in Curaçao recently, and their findings have the potential to derail the entire multi-billion dollar blockchain industry. Individual blocks in the overall “chain” store records of […]

Blockchain-Supported Tech Behind New Startups

by crypto journalist
As we’ve discussed before, bitcoin and other cryprocurrencies are made possible by what’s known as blockchain technology, an incorruptible digital ledger of transactions that can automatically record and verify a high volume of digital transactions, regardless of location. Blockchain is most often known within the finance industry to date, but the technology is thought to have the potential to disrupt many industries, from healthcare to law enforcement. Here are the latest innovative ways companies are harnessing the power of blockchain: Cybersecurity Guardtime Federal is a blockchain-backed data security startup that has used blockchain to create a Keyless Signature Infrastructure (KSI), a […]

How Blockchain Will Change Construction

by crypto journalist
Jorg Greuel/Getty Images Blockchain technology is among the most disruptive forces of the past decade. Blockchain’s power to record, enable, and secure huge numbers and varieties of transactions raises an intriguing question: can the same distributed ledger technology that powers bitcoin also enable better execution of strategic projects in a conservative sector like construction, involving large teams of contractors and subcontractors and an abundance of building codes, safety regulations, and standards? “Increasingly, we are thinking more carefully about when and where we need to compete and what can we share and collaborate on,” said David Bowcott, global director of growth, […]

IBM Blockchain to Offer Decentralized Smart Contract Option – CoinDesk

by crypto journalist
“IBM Blockchain Platform will support Hyperledger Fabric 2.0 and continue to add additional capabilities around the new decentralized smart contract lifecycle management and other new improvements,” IBM said in its blog post. “In addition, the platform will allow the user to choose which version of Fabric to deploy and to migrate from one version to another.” On the existing Hyperledger Fabric 1.0, smart contract governance is largely centralized. The ability to propose new parameters is reserved for one entity, while all other parties face a binary choice of either accepting them as they are or refuse them entirely and take […]

Blockchain Valley: Wyoming Is Poised To Become the Cryptocurrency Capital of America

by crypto journalist
Wyoming is a state of rugged individualists that seems to have a penchant for being “first” on matters of no small importance. Also dubbed the “Equality State,” Wyoming was the first state to grant women the right to vote and the first state to elect a female governor.  As to business matters, it was the creator of the concept of a Limited Liability Company (“LLC”) back in 1977, and today, nearly two-thirds of businesses formed in the United States choose the LLC format. What’s next? Blockchain. Yes, the exciting new technology with seemingly unlimited use cases, and the underpinning of cryptocurrencies, is now on […]
