by crypto journalist
Bitcoin On Marxism and the Value of Bitcoin Emilio Janus| Sep 04, 2018 | 18:00 What is bitcoin worth? That would seem like a fairly easy question, answerable by simply checking the top banner of this very page. But what gives it this value? That would seem to depend on who you ask.  Proof of Work There are some for whom the answer to even this question appears simple. Bitcoin has value because there is a cost in terms of processing power and energy usage to mine it. Right? This is essentially Marx’s Labour Theory of Value, and the parallels are drawn […]

Bitcoin: Argentina Could Push Price Higher – Bitcoin USD (Cryptocurrency:BTC-USD)

by crypto journalist
Ever since I went to college at both Pasadena City College and the University of Denver, I have followed the Argentinian economy; I wrote several papers for my economic classes. Argentina’s economy seems to continuously swing from boom to bust and back again. Once more, as back in the 1990s and so many other occasions, the Argentinian economy is in a financial crisis. The current malaise stems from either the country’s own doing or just plain bad luck. The economy is currently reeling from both a severe drought that wreaked havoc on the country’s highly-dependent agriculture and interest rates increasing […]

Bitcoin recovers as key South Korean exchange comes back online

by crypto journalist
News of institutional interest in crypto has been another barometer for prices this summer. On Tuesday, Morgan Creek Digital and Bitwise Asset Management announced a new fund aimed at investors like endowments, pension funds and family offices. The so-called Digital Asset Index Fund has a minimum $50,000 investment and gives investors exposure to a basket of cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin broke above $7,000 following that announcement, after trading in the $6,000 range for the majority of August. Investors have been closely watching the arrival of any institutional money, especially in the form of exchange-traded funds. Bitcoin rallied 20 percent, above $8,000, in […]

Cryptocurrencies Are In A Bear Market, But Bitcoin Is Holding Steady

by crypto journalist
Cryptocurrency and tokens are like any market: When money flows in, the price goes up; when money flows out, the price goes down. Right now the money flow is out of cryptocurrency and into fiat. Ethereum is being particularly affected as all those initial coin offerings (ICOs) funded in ethereum have to, and are right to, sell their crypto-funding and get it into fiat. Sadly, it’s hard to pay salaries in crypto and impossible to pay rent, etc., in anything but fiat. ICO companies are not hedge funds. They must take their fiat and run. This is and will be a [...]

Regulation News Still Moves Bitcoin Prices, BIS Report Says

by crypto journalist
A new report from the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) contends that bitcoin markets are swayed by news events related to regulation. “While cryptocurrencies are often thought to operate out of the reach of national regulation, in fact their valuations, transaction volumes and user bases react substantially to news about regulatory actions,” argues the report, which was drafted by Raphael Auer and Stijn Claessens and was published on September 23. The full report adds to the growing body of research conducted by the BIS – considered by some to be the “central bank’s central bank” – on the subject of cryptocurrencies and […]

China central bank brags about killing Bitcoin trading in the country – BGR

by crypto journalist
Bitcoin had a fantastic run last year, but the fun only lasted until January 2018 when a variety of factors contributed to Bitcoin’s massive fall. Fears of regulation in multiple markets were often cited as the main reason for Bitcoin’s fall from grace with consumers. China was one of the most important markets to impose strict rules related to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, including a ban on trading the most popular coin in the world. It now looks like China may have helped decimate Bitcoin, and the country seems pretty happy with itself. We’re now in early July and Bitcoin is […]
