Crowdfunding for our Olympic medallists – CN&CO
Crowdfunding for our Olympic medallists
CN&CO’s Carel Nolte was one of the instigators in a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the two South Africans who won medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
.@EasyEquities & @cnandco want to pledge R10k to each of our medal winners. Suspect we can get lots of other corporates & passionate South Africans to join us in thanking our athletes? What do you think @mikesharman ? https://t.co/giCpz4vjr5

The campaign has already raised more than R100 000 for local heroes Tatjana Schoenmaker and Bianca Buitendag, who together brought home South Africa’s three Olympic medals from the games.
“It is unthinkable that these amazing women will receive no financial reward for their achievements, especially considering that Tatjana broke a world record in the process of winning one of her medals,” says Carel.
Past athletes who received generous financial reward for winning Olympic medals include Chad le Clos and Wayde van Niekerk, who received hundreds of thousands of rands for their achievements in Rio in 2016.
Mike Sharman, who started the crowdfunding drive with rugby legend Bryan Habana, tweeted:
“2016 Wayde van Niekerk earned R500,000 for winning gold and an extra R150,000 for breaking a World Record and Chad Le Clos earned R200,000 for a silver. By this standard, Tatjana Schoenmaker should be rewarded with at least R850,000 and Bianca Buitendag R200,000.”
The “SA Olympic medals bonus” crowdfunding platform can be found here. Anyone is welcome to make a donation. You can also donate to the cause via the Donate for Good initiative on EasyEquities, which gives you the option to make a donation when you buy or sell shares.
