Lockdown-defying hairdresser Sinead Quinn has closed her crowdfunding page after supporters raised more than £10,000.

Around 500 people donated to the Go Fund Me page which Ms Quinn created in November last year shortly after she was hit with multiple fines for opening her salon during the pandemic lockdown.

Ms Quinn, who runs Quinn Blakey Hairdressers in Oakenshaw, near Bradford, deactivated the account as the total hit £10,402.

Individual donations ranged from a few pounds to £200.

On setting up the fund, she wrote: “By no means do I think the council will be successful in trying to extort money from me.

“I am simply doing this so that people don’t take it upon themselves to create a Go Fund Me on my behalf and possibly run off with the money!”

She added that she was “confident” that “we will win this fight” and that she will be able to give the money to her brother who was diagnosed with cancer.

Yorkshire Live understands that the Go Fund Me page was recently taken down by Ms Quinn. She had set an initial target of £5,000 but it is not known why the appeal was ended.

In February Kirklees Council confirmed that Ms Quinn had failed to pay anything towards fixed penalty notices imposed last year for flouting lockdown regulations.

The total owed to Kirklees is £19,455, which includes court costs of £2,455 which Ms Quinn was ordered to pay by a judge in January.

Ms Quinn has been summonsed to court over the unpaid fines. The hearing is listed for August 13.

Yorkshire Live has approached Kirklees Council for comment on whether the fines remain unpaid.

Ms Quinn could not be reached for comment.
